Why I’m Giving Up On Christians
Lincoln Adams | June 12, 2008 @ 7:12 pmIn spite of how difficult it’s become trying to find a nice Christian girl with enough moral fiber not to go a-whoring around town every night, I’ve always believed that if I just dug hard enough through the compost heap of life, I’d eventually find my jewel.
With that in mind, there’s an old-time Christian artist I listen to that I thought only the most devout of Christians would appreciate, mainly because his songs are so God focused and consistently admonish us to stop sinning and live a holy life. So if I found a girl who particularly liked this singer, it was a major plus for me.
Yesterday I came across this inactive dating profile where the girl mentioned her love for this same artist. Total awesomeness, dude. In addition, she writes:
My life is God’s first and foremost! I am also a Messianic Jew.
Awesome.
I am madly in love with my hubby…
Ah well, it was an inactive profile after all.
and our fiance too! She is the wife of my heart.
… … … … … … … Huh?
We have an equal and closed triangle triad (people who practice polyfidelity would understand), and I am really happy to have them in my life.
What… in the… blue… F*&%?
Not to detract from the subject, but I’m curious to know what the bedding arrangements are here. Do they go for a full on king size, or is there a schedule involved?
But, really, what the F*&%?
Do Christians even bother to read their Bibles anymore? Or are you all using The Message instead, assuming it’s just as good a transliteral work of the originals? (just in case you’re a really dense moron of a Christian here, The Message is a very loose paraphrase of the Bible.)
I think what galls me more than anything about this is not so much this bizarre adulterous arrangement they got going here, but the fact that they managed to find a girl who would actually agree to it. The hubbie must really be loving his two for one deal, that’s for sure.
To cap it off, this was on top of recently learning about a transsexual who found love and “married” another transsexual. Really, isn’t it just wonderful how all these lovebirds can find each other with relative ease? And here I am, a simple guy who just wants a decent girl to love (and who understandably prefers that she not be batdroppings bugnuts insane), yet it’s like trying to find Sasquatch. Did she ever really exist to begin with?
But, whatever. Reading that sealed it for me. I am absolutely done with you Christian asshats. Because let’s face it, if you weren’t already busy engaging in a frolicking threesome, then you’d be busy convulsing in holy laughter, or running down the aisle to “get some” with Todd Bentley, or amassing a dozen degrees in seminaries to spout some fatalistic Calvinist crap, or attending a Rick Warren seminar to find your purpose in life, or cheering on your pastor as he screams GOD DAMN AMERICA!!!!!!!
I know there are a few of you left who haven’t completely lost your minds, but collectively speaking, you are all… truly… nuckin’ futs.
I can never abandon my faith, because I know God is real and that His Word is real, but I can no longer associate myself with any Christian group, much less attend any of its churches. You all feel free to continue as you were though, and let the “Spirit” continue to slay your silly, stupid asses as much as your wee little hearts desire. I choose to follow another path.
As for my soulmate, I guess I’ll still always be searching for the girl of my dreams, but I recognize now that the perfect girl won’t be a Christian. She’ll be something better: sane.

Sorry Linc, but your post had me LOLing. There are some wacky people in this world aren’t they?
I used to tease my hubby when we were teens (I’ve known him since I was 15 and we dated for a long time in high school). He was convinced that he would marry his idea of the “perfect Christian woman” … but then, little non-Christian me came into his life. I’m not a bad person, never have been … just didn’t ascribe (er, subscribe?) to the church thing and the “needing a gateway person to God” idea that I’ve always had. I’m still sorta the same way. In fact, his church - that he was with since he was 6 refused to marry us saying it was “like marrying light to dark” (I’m SO not kidding you, I heard the pastor say it himself).
So, I guess my point is … you will find your soul mate - but she might not BE a Christian. Don’t discredit someone just because they aren’t
That and stop looking online! There are WAY too many WEIRDOS!!
And, furthermore … a good deal of the “Christians” I meet are liars. They call themselves Christian but are THE BIGGEST judger’s and JERKS in the world. I prefer to just be a good person and not fall under a specific religion. I know (I KNOW) there are REAL TRUE GOOD CHRISTIANS out there. I just don’t know a lot

LOL, I have to admit while the pastor could have used more tact, he does have a point. There’s a spiritual element that goes missing if one spouse is a Christian but the other isn’t, and it’s really tragic when a couple can’t relate to each other in this regard. It’s like me telling heathen wife:
“Yeah I was just praying the other day and the Lord laid it on my heart not to purchase the house because it would hurt us down the road, even though I know this was the house you wanted.”
To which she would blink at me a few times, wonder if I haven’t just gone completely wonky donks, and then instantly serve my crazy buttinkos with divorce papers.
Ah well.

Linc, your problem is that you live DOWNSTATE. That’s like, Mars! There’s a wholesome, clean, and happy world beyond those dingy doors!
And, um, I’m not making the connection…. this wacky girl likes a certain Christian singer, so that makes her a Christian? She *says* she is a “Messianic Jew,” but how do you know? And… because she is wacked, then all are wacked?
are you being serious, or does this stuff just make great blog reading?
Quote
I’m always serious, except for those times when I’m not.
A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
Or is it just my misfortune that all of downstate is off its meds, including what, the entire Internet? Oh, and Virginia Beach too? (Been there too, won’t be going back anytime soon.)

Hey, I ain’t no lump.
Besides Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Utica, Binghamton, and especially Albany, Upstate is a very nice place.

Hey .. I’m a heathen - but I am a totally ACCEPTING heathen. Plus, I think the minister may have not taken into account that potentially, the “light” can bring the “dark” around. Eh?

I’m sure I’ve said it once here and I’ll say it again … you are clearly not meeting the right Christian girls.
And the word Christian has such a wide possibility of definitions! Just because someone defines themselves as a Christian does not mean that they follow a “set” list of rules / morals. Even Christians within a single church will disagree over interpretation.
I think instead of focusing on this label of “good Christian Girl” you should just look for a nice girl who has a good head on her shoulders. If she is a Christian, great. If not, well that’s okay too.
And maybe you are looking too hard? Sometimes you find what you were looking for when you STOP looking. My aunt *literally* fell into my now uncle’s lap when she tripped at a baseball game.
She’s always been a klutz. Ha!
I accidentally met my now hubby when he came into the apartment office where I was working part time. I wasn’t looking and neither was he. And here we are.

I noticed people who say that are the ones who already have someone, and I suspect when they heard it themselves before they met someone they probably clawed the eyes out of the person who tried to give them the same advice.
Just saying.

I’ve been thinking about you and this post, and the people who commented. Christians are a terrific target to sneer at, yeah. And people sure do come out of the woodwork to join the bandwagon, don’t they? But consider this: is God real? did Jesus the Christ really die for our sins, and prove it by being raised from the dead? did Jesus the Christ establish the church– the assembly of believers in Him? The answer to every question is yes. Sniveling about Christians is really irrelevant in such a case.
I would think that anyone who is really seeking truth would put aside selfish lusts, selfish ambition, and pride, and seek the truth of the matter. Didn’t God say to seek first His kingdom and righteousness and all these things (that the Gentiles seek so fervently) would be added to him? And didn’t He also say that he who comes to God must believe that He is, and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him? And didn’t He also say that there is no one good?
The arguments I’ve seen here stem from ignorance. Maybe better time would be spent seeking the scriptures to become fully assured of the faith, rather then criticizing Christians and their hypocrisies. To the heathens: even hypocritical Christians are closer to God than you are.
Just sayin’.

He also said, “Be ye perfect” and “Be ye holy, even as I am holy.”
The point of the post (other than it being another rant) was to underscore the difficulty of finding someone (particularly a woman) who professes to be a Christian and actually MEANS it.
This isn’t hypocrisy we’re dealing with. Hypocrites at least acknowledge that certain acts are sin, even if they still do it themselves. But these guys don’t even think they’re even doing anything wrong, despite the clear commandments of Scripture. That’s not hypocrisy, that’s apostasy.
Paul at one time wrote, “They are not all Israel, which are of Israel.”
If you think about it, there’s no reason for me to have any qualms with Christians who are in fact real Christians. They may struggle with sin, but the key thing here is the very fact that they’re struggling. They haven’t made peace with their sins, instead they resolved to fight it.
Then there are those who take on the mantle of Christianity and then proceed to deny half the writings of Scripture (you know, sort of like the way Obama does.) I believe these types make up the vast majority of the Christian world too. Clouds without mist would describe them aptly.
I consider it far more dangerous for my spiritual well being to be with someone who thinks the world of say, Benny Hinn, than with someone who is merely agnostic. It’s better to be with the unsaved than with someone who is not merely ignorant, but under delusion.
And yet such a simple criteria has made it virtually impossible for me to find a Christian girl whose eyes remain open, and whose judgment hasn’t been clouded by sin.
Such a sad world I live in.

I’m sorry to hear about your disappointment with “Christians”.
But remember “Many will come in My Name, saying I am Christ, and will deceive many.” How do we read? Is Jesus implying that they will claim to be Christ, or make claims that Jesus is in fact Christ, but hold to a different gospel?
In answer to your comments…
Yes, I hate “The Message” as well; out of curiosity, I looked up Romans 1:18 and still found it to say “But God’s angry displeasure erupts as acts of human mistrust and wrongdoing and lying accumulate, as people try to put a shroud over truth.” If the people you mentioned read it, they should do well to listen to these words.
The 3rd chapter of 2 Timothy reads as a laundry list of the things we see today. This litany ends in saying that such people have an outward form of godliness but deny its power. They try to “make” Jesus savior without “making” Jesus Lord of their lives.
“[Always] turn away from these types.”
Yes, there exist the Pat Robertson - type soothsaying idolaters (Eph. 5:5: Phil. 3:18-19), Word of Faith witches, Latter Rain kundalinists, Todd Bentley devotees, fatalistic Calvanists, and just plain anomian perverts; these are all transparent enough and should be avoided. What is not so transparent is what they all hold in common: selfishness and idolatry. Yes, superficially it is obvious, but when we take our eyes off of Christ and put them on people aren’t we guilty of the same?
What then is a “real” Christian?
Christ said “Blessed are the poor in spirit…” The Greek word used here for poor is “ptochos” –abjectly poor, without hope, not “penes” –the struggling poor. The only true Christian is the one who comes to Him recognizing that there is nothing to offer for the sins committed in his/her life and begs for His mercy. S/he cannot hold an unforgiving attitude towards others in light of this awesome grace. Being gratuitously declared just by His grace, s/he cannot but respond in total submission to the whole of His royal loving Law in light of the outstanding debt s/he was forgiven. If this is not our Christianity, we must keep seeking, keep asking, keep knocking until we receive from Him His Holy Spirit.(Deut. 4:29; Luke 11:5-13) No chant, “sinner’s prayer” , or any other recitation will ever cause it magically to happen. Even faith and the desire to do His will must be sought from God.
“for by grace are ye saved, through faith –and THAT not of yourselves: it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Søren Kierkegaard, the 19th century Christian philosopher said, ‘When Christianity entered into the world, people were not Christians, and the difficulty was to become a Christian. Nowadays the difficulty in becoming a Christian is that one must cease to become a Christian. One best becomes a Christian without “Christianity.” Not until a person has become so wretched that his only wish, his only consolation, is to die–not until then does Christianity truly begin.’
John 12:24-26; Matthew 10:38-39

What the???? WHAT?!?!?!
WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?! Uhhh….
That was one of the weirdest things ever. How can she even claim to be a Christian?! Totally odd!
I don’t think you should give up going to church though. I still have a hard time going to church after my dad died, but I don’t want to give church up. There are some very good churches out there, you just have to find them.
And what’s wrong with Calvin…? LOL.

I’ve had discussions about this endlessly with other people. The truth is there’s no church in my area that suits me, so it will just have to wait till I move. Although I might revisit the idea just to scope for righteous virginal hot babes once I have the time to do so.
