All this global warming resulting in subzero temperatures and mountains of snow is making it a tad difficult to figure out where to go for my next trip. :-D
I have a week off coming up in February, but I have no idea where to go for this one. North, South, East, West? Somebody help me out here. The only condition I’ve set is to limit the journey to a radius of 300 miles, which covers everything from southern Maine to northern Virginia, to as far west as Pittsburgh.
One thing I might like is a coastline trip from Rhode Island to Portland, Maine, where I could visit Boston on the way and maybe parts of New Hampshire as well, although I’m not sure how fun such a trip would be in the dead of winter, especially if I get caught in a snowstorm.
Actually if that happened I’d probably a blast, but then my Mommy would worry about me.
So what do you all think? What’s a good place to visit during the wintertime for some fun and relaxation?

I did go to Boston for reading week in February once. Stayed in a frat house at MIT with friends. Drove up to NH for the day to do some skiing. Ate some amazing meals like real NE Clam chowder YUM. Did the touristy sightseeing, et al. Experienced some awesome shopping too! But hey! I’m a girl from Canada… You may feel differently about it!
I’d definitely head as far south as you can go! Even 45-50 degrees & sun beats zero w/cloud cover! Maybe save the eastern seaboard & New England for a gorgeous autumn color tour.
Too far? Looks like N. Carolina or Tenn are your warmest bets.
Oops. Double your distance.
Wickedpedia: New York City To Charlotte North Carolina is approx. 620 miles
Train ride? Even through cold country–something different? Fun to dream.
Train sounds like a great idea because you can get up and walk around AND meet interesting people!
Not sure I’d like the idea of being trapped on a train for hundreds of miles, which is why the idea of a cruise doesn’t really thrill me either.
Normally, I’d make an autumn trip of it, but I’ll be heading to the Midwest for this autumn, all the way to Missouri. I can’t wait!
