Spend, Spend, Spend! I’m my own economic boom, baby!

Lincoln Adams | July 27, 2009 @ 9:46 pm

I’ve been going on a spending spree ever since paying off the last of my debt earlier this month, but don’t worry, most of it has been for necessities such as work shoes, which literally had gaping holes in them and were over 2 years old  (you could see my toe-sies!)  And believe me, you don’t even wanna know what state my underwear were  in.   :wideeyed:  Thankfully though, I am no longer a tighty whitey dude.

I also threw down for some chick magnetizing sunglasses and FINALLY settled on a brand new watch as well, getting ever so closer to checking off all the items on my wishlist and becoming … *clears throat* …  the ULTIMATE Blogging Badass:shades:

I do all this, of course, with the full knowledge that the current economy quite plainly sucks flaming donkey balls (while the democrats in Congress continue to serve up a fresh batch of them by the day.)  I realize a lot of people are hurting out there, so when I go on about buying some nice, shiny new toys (and manly looking boxer-briefs) while people are out there suffering from all sorts of financial distress, I do feel bad about it…. for a minute or two.

The reason I don’t feel TOO bad about it is because I remember the days when the economy was boom stomping and people were going half mad buying up tech stocks or purchasing ridiculously sized homes they couldn’t afford, while I could only watch with wonder and dismay, unemployed and eventually even homeless.

Yep, there was a time when I was actually homeless, evicted by a demon possessed relative who literally poisoned my beloved cat.  I guess this Nazi loving moochbag couldn’t find a Jew to gas, so he went for my cat instead.  Fun times!

I remember that all happened in 2000 too, during what was supposed to be the year of jubilee.  All the churches in my area just kept going on and on about the year of jubilee, and how it was going to be a time of unparalleled blessings and prosperity and bountiful harvests and God only knows what else, none of which incidentally enough, I ever experienced.  Instead, it was just one traumatic loss after another.  Loss of inheritances.  Loss of homes.  Loss of security.  Loss of family.  I think if you were to collectively take everything that had been lost by either me or my family, it would literally amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars.  The magnitude of what we had lost or stolen from us amazes me even today.  All during a time of economic prosperity and growth too.

In a way, I see these modest splurges as a way to regain some of what I had lost after ten years of plague and darkness.   To find myself in a secure job, debt free, with money to invest and a blog that brings me a decent second income during a time of economic distress and imminent calamity has to be the ultimate height of irony.  This is the LORD’s doing, and it is marvelous before our eyes.

I find myself in a transitional phase now, with one shackle after another slowly falling off until one day I am going to find myself completely independent, and completely free.   Knowing that day is not too far off now, I wonder to myself, What will I do with this newfound freedom?  What will I do with the talents (Matthew 25:14-30) that I’ve been given?

I certainly can’t hoard it to myself, nor do I want to.   A free man can set others free, and I want to take what is mine, and give it to those in need.  I know what it’s like to lose everything.  I know what it’s like to suffer.  But I also know that a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things he possesses.  We have been told by our society that a man is nothing if he doesn’t have a house or land, and we are now paying the price for that fallacy.  Truth be told, of all the things that had been stolen from me, including a home, I never really wanted any of it anyway, nor did it bother me all that much to lose it.  It was the concept that someone had taken something from me through the most despicable and evil means (and had gotten away with it) that bothered me, and more than bothered me, it enraged me.  It wasn’t justice.  Why did God reward evil with good?  It’s something I still struggle with even today, even as I watch the tide gradually turn in my favor.

As angry as I am about the past, I never want to do to others what had been done to me.  It’s my desire to alleviate the burdens of the innocent, not add to them.  But in what capacity I could realize these desires, I don’t know.  That chapter has yet to be played out.

I do know I want to save the world, one innocent person at a time.  And I hope one day I can do so… while wearing comfortable boxer-briefs and looking cool in my chick magnetizing shades.  :ggrin:

Why Affiliate Marketers are Scum of the Earth and Should Rot in Hell

Lincoln Adams | February 26, 2009 @ 1:57 pm

There were several advertising networks I used to deliver ads to my blog here, and for a while I had a pretty good setup going, to the point that with a little more traffic I could actually earn a decent secondary income, and maybe some day live off my blog altogether.  A few of them though didn’t have the option of letting me preview ads before they went live, but they did have some rudimentary filtering features (such as blocking advertisers by domain), and I figured that would be enough for me.

Until the acai berry ads started showing up.

You’ve probably seen them already, as they have infested the Internet like some sort of cyber mutated bubonic plague.   Really, Moses himself couldn’t call down a worse plague than this.  The ads lead to landing pages (vanilla websites) that contain completely fake testimonials with before and after photos that were photoshopped and/or taken from stock photo sites.  The links to the products are actually hidden affiliate links on which the affiliate marketer (or as I like to call him, the Greedy Scum Whoring Bitch Boy of Satan) receives a commission every time a visitor clicks on one of his links and subsequently makes a purchase.  What many of them don’t realize though is that the “free” acai berry offers being promoted are really a gimmick to get your credit/debit card info, at which point they charge you about $100 after two weeks without your knowledge.   By the time people figure out what’s what, the scam has already been perpetrated, and it will take much hair tearing and gnashing of teeth to get your money back again, if you can at all.  As time goes on, these landing pages are getting more and more sophisticated and will no doubt fool even more people as a result.

As if that weren’t bad enough, these are the kind of ads Greedy Scum Whoring Bitch Boy of Satan might show:

Typical Acai Berry Scam Ad

Naturally, I didn’t want these ads showing up on my blog.  I wanted only quality ads that lead to genuine products, and since these ads were nothing more than overfunded (not to mention overEXPOSED) snake oil scams, I moved to block them on the ad networks they were circulating on.

Or I should say, I TRIED to block them.  That’s when I realized just how bad this epidemic of vomit inducing flabby skin really was.  On the ValueClick network, Greedy Scum Whoring Bitch Boy of Satan constantly changed the name of his ad campaigns so even when I blocked one campaign, another one would pop up under an entirely different name.  I emailed Valueclick and complained several times about this, giving them the names of the campaigns, but of course they ignored me.  After all, I’m not the guy who’s showing them the money.  And it’s all about the money, right Valueclick?  How’s your stock doing by the way?  Jerkweeds.

Then I noticed they were also showing up on what was by far my most lucrative network: ADSDAQ (owned by ContextWeb).  Not to worry though, ADSDAQ had the option of blocking ads by domain name, so I figured no biggie, I’ll just block the domains these ads lead to, and that will be the end of it.

But then another domain popped up, and then another one, and then ANOTHER one.  And then suddenly there were ads for government grant scams, and teeth whitening scams, and ads to fake eBooks promising natural cures for various ailments, and ads for wrinkle cream scams, and on and on and on.  I literally started spending hours a day hunting down these rogue ads and adding more domains to the blacklist, and STILL they were getting through.  Just how bad was it?  Well lookie here at my latest blacklist:

And dudes, that’s only a FRACTION of all the domain names that Greedy Scum Whoring Bitch Boy of Satan had been registering, and I’m sure he adds several hundred more domains a day just to ensure his ads can never be blocked by domain filtering alone.  As if that weren’t enough, I noticed on ADSDAQ that some of the domains on the blacklist were STILL getting through.  Somehow Greedy Scum Whoring Bitch Boy of Satan had found a way to bypass the filtering system altogether by using a redirect to hide his actual domains.

Honestly,  there’s no pit in hell deep enough for this affiliate marketing terrorist.  Imagine the most heinous form of perpetual torture that could ever be inflicted on the minds and bodies of men, and multiply that by infinity times infinity, and still it’d be too good for whoever this crap sucking affiliate whoring schmuck monkey is.

I emailed ADSDAQ several times to let them know that this guy was defeating their filtering system, and they responded by simply giving me another list of domains to block, but will not do anything about the ads themselves.  Brilliant.  These networks will take money from Hitler so long as it helps them stay in business.  Nice to know you care so much about quality, eh ContextWeb?

And don’t even get me started on contextual link ads from networks like Infolinks and Kontera.  I’ve had ads for gambling, cigarette smoking, scams, ponzi schemes, (and my personal favorite: dating sites for married people) all show up after the fact on my blog, and these particular in-text networks provide NO means whatsoever for me to preview these ads and effectively block them.  Just lame and utterly absurd keyword filtering that I have to request by EMAIL, all of which can be easily defeated by a savvy spammer such as Greedy Scum Whoring Bitch Boy of Satan.

In the end, the only option I had to keep those ugly ass flabby skin ads (and all the other crap ads) off my site permanently was to drop the networks that didn’t give me full editorial control over the ads that might show up.  I had to drop three networks to accomplish this (including Chitika, which also only allows filtering by domain names), and my earning power as a result was cut by more than half.  Under these new conditions, there’s no way I can earn a decent income through my blog now.

Such a nice world we live in, where scammers can run rampant and free across so many major advertising networks, crowding out quality advertisers who actually care about their branding reputation and crippling the earning potential of publishers everywhere who likewise care about their own credibility and integrity.

So here’s to your success, Mr. Affiliate Marketing Greedy Scum Whoring Bitch Boy of Satan.  May you and all those like you someday be hit by a speeding Japanese bullet train twice over, and may all the remains of your carcasses be food for disease riddled condors.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

Lincoln Adams | October 3, 2006 @ 9:59 pm

Certain events in the past have played a significant role in devastating my pysche, which by themselves really don’t seem like anything noteworthy, until you consider the context in which they happened.

For example, when I first started blogging, one of my secret desires behind my decision to blog, was that by putting my thoughts online, it’d give me an opportunity to meet a beautiful girl who thought the same way I did. Eventually, a reader who fit that profile DID start visiting my blog on a regular basis. Gorgeous, young, Christian and a staunch conservative, she was a rarity who might have been perfect had she not lived so far away. So what happens? She meets someone through HER blog, and they get married a few months later. What I had hoped so badly would happen to me ,happened to someone else instead.

Shortly afterwards, I met a pretty female co-worker who had recently joined our division. Now over the years, I had always fantasized about meeting someone through my job, where we’d end up working together and eventually falling in love. I even envisioned over what she might look like: long brown hair, beautiful brown eyes and a healthy mocha skin. We’d share the same interests and passions, while one personality smoothly complemented the other. A match made in heaven.

So when a pretty girl with long brown hair, brown eyes and beautifully tanned skin suddenly shows up in my division, I couldn’t help but take notice, especially since she was the first young woman to get assigned here in a long, long time (the kind of job done here is mostly filled by much older women in their 50s or 60s.) So after so many years of plague and darkness, I wondered: could she be…the one??

Alas, what I envisioned in my mind could not have been more out of touch with reality. We had NOTHING in common, which may have been aggravated by the fact that she had NO interest in me at all. While my passion were politics and religion, her passion was….boats. While I enjoyed visiting museums dedicated to history, her idea of spending the weekend involved attending the latest Bon Jovi concert. If I liked watching Fox News every now and then, she religiously watched the Real World on MTV.

Trying to have a conversation with her was about as invigorating and welcome as performing hernia operation on yourself using nothing more than a wooden spoon. I always had to carry the ball when we talked. She never volunteered anything, and when I couldn’t think of anything more to say, the air would hang in a kind of dead silence that could only be found at cemetaries.

Obviously, there were no sparks here. But what irked me more than anything was her total lack of interest in me. It wasn’t that she wasn’t a nice person, but that I barely registered on her radar. I would have rather she had been interested in ME, and I’D be the one who’d have to turn her down, not the other way around. It’s an ego thing, obviously, but it would have felt good to know that for once, JUST EFFING once, a pretty girl would find me interesting and attractive. Nope.

I remembered thinking at the time that the only thing that could have made it worse, was that she would fall madly in love with another coworker and eventually get married.

Welllllll, guess what. Not 5 months(?!?!?) since she started working here, she meets another coworker, falls madly in love, and is now engaged. What I had hoped so badly would happen to me, happened to someone else instead.

Are you detecting a pattern here? Imagine 20 years of this, enduring these series of unfortunate events, and you get my life. You know, it’s one thing when people meet and fall in love. I accept that, but when it happens like this, I simply can’t handle it. It’s like God is playing mind games with me, putting me in these kinds of situations where I have to endure getting speared in the most cruelest fashion possible, and yet still I must believe and accept that He is a loving God who cares about me. Yeah, sure.

This is why I am so angry at God, and cannot speak or pray to Him. It’s cruel the way I’m being treated: absolutely, despicably cruel. Maybe I deserve it though: in fact, I know I do. But I have seen some pretty bad people in my life get blessed in obscene ways that make absolutely no sense to me. I’m still trying to figure it out… still trying to make some kind of sense of it all. But I can conclude nothing except that God must truly and utterly despise me.

When I graduated college, I was filled with high hopes and expectations about everything, but the last 8 years since then has done its darndest best to utterly crush my spirit and squeeze every last drop of hope out of me. Today, I am a broken, confused and lost soul. Yet I’m still trying to find my way, still trying to seek answers for why things turned out the way they did, still trying to see some reason for it all.

In the meantime, I have to deal with the bitterness and anger I’ve been left with now. I had hoped so much that by this time I’d be in law school, if only so I’d never have to see the brown-eyed bitch again. Instead, I have to be forever reminded of what a failure I am every day that I see her. I hate her, not for who she is, but for what she represents to me: the reality that I will always be alone. I will never have a family, or anybody to love, because no one wants to love me.

To hell with you all.
