Introducing: The Top 19 Songs of All Time Playlist!

Lincoln Adams | April 3, 2008 @ 3:05 pm

Claire Bear (oops make that Dr. Claire Bear) tagged me with a meme (which longtime readers know is usually a sure prelude to much violence, ranting and whining on my part), BUT… I’ll give her a pass her since it’s a musical meme, which is right down my alley and just the thing needed to calm the savage beast. :D

The meme calls for taking 19 of your most favorite songs, burning them on 5 CDs to share with 5 other people(?!?!), then posting the playlist on your blog.

Uh, I think I’ll just mention my Top 19 and y’all can take it from there. :ggrin:

The first 10-15 songs were pretty easy to fill, mainly songs I first heard during my high school years that would profoundly shape my musical tastes over the years. I’ve always been a romantic at heart, so it made sense that I’d be drawn to music that expressed the highs and lows of my sometimes turbulent emotions. :spinna:

The last 4 took some thought, since I was still over by about 5 songs and had to knock a few off the list. Some of the casualties were songs by the Platters, Gloria Estefan and Fleetwood Mac.

After even more consideration, I finally managed to winnow it down to 19 songs, so here they are, The Habitation of Justice’s Top 19 Songs of All Time Playlist, in alphabetical order:

  • All Out of Love - Air Supply
  • Best of Times - Styx
  • Broken Wings - Mister Mister
  • Desperado - Eagles
  • Every Breath you Take - The Police
  • Everything I Do (I do it for you) - Bryan Adams
  • Faithfully - Peter Cetera
  • Free Fallin’ - Tom Petty
  • Glory of Love - Peter Cetera
  • I Still haven’t Found What I’m Looking For - U2
  • I Wish It Would Rain Down - Phil Collins
  • King of Pain - The Police
  • Mandolin Rain - Bruce Hornsby and the Range
  • Open Arms - Journey
  • True Colors - Cyndi Lauper
  • When A Man Loves A Woman - Percy Sledge
  • When You Love A Woman - Journey
  • Worthless Evening - Don Henley
  • You’re The Inspiration - Chicago

:hifi:

Update: HOLY COW I can’t believe I accidentally cut out REO Speedwagon’s “I Can’t Fight This Feeling” :wideeyed: AHHHHHH, that easily would have made my top 5 list too! OK, scratch off ummm…. Percy Sledge for REO and that should do it for my Top 19. :D

123 - A Meme as Simple as Do Re Mi

Lincoln Adams | February 7, 2008 @ 2:14 am

I’ve been tagged YET AGAIN for another meme, but since the tagger is a real hottie, all is forgiven. :ggrin: The rules for this one’s actually a little more interesting than usual:

  • Pick up the nearest book of 123 pages or more.
  • Find Page 123.
  • Find the first 5 sentences.
  • Post the next 3 sentences.
  • Tag 5 people.

The book turned out to be a collection of poems from one of my favorite English writers, William Blake. The poem that ran through page 123 is titled Auguries of Innocence, and after locating the first five sentences, the last three sentences also happened to be the last few verses of the poem:

Some are Born to sweet delight,
Some are Born to Endless Night.

We are led to Believe a Lie
When we see not Thro’ the Eye
Which was Born in a Night, to perish in a Night,
When the Soul Slept in Beams of Light.

God Appears, & God is Light
To those poor Souls who dwell in Night,
But does a Human Form Display
To those who Dwell in Realms of Day.

This reminds me of Job’s response to God after the conclusion of his awful trials:

I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee. - Job 42:5

Blake reminds me that it’s one thing to acknowledge God and recognize His divinity, but it’s quite another to experience who He is as a Person. Unless we see “thro’ the eye,” God is merely something we hear about and read about, but not Someone who is truly real to us. As righteous as Job was, his trials served a purpose in that it made him recognize his own helplessness in the face of life’s brutal storms. Yet it is in that period of despair that God’s power is revealed for us to see, and His glory is manifested in our weaknesses. When we witness God succeeding on our behalf where we would otherwise miserably fail, that’s when we begin to truly see Him.

This is the LORD’S doing; it [is] marvellous in our eyes. - Psalms 118:23

As for tagging, I won’t bother with that, but feel free to continue this meme on your blog if you want. :D

You Got Your Personality Meme

Lincoln Adams | December 19, 2007 @ 11:21 am

I recently got tagged by the T at Spilt Milk for a Birthday Personality Meme.

Well it’s easy enough to do: simply pick your birthday month and then bold the character traits that accurately describe you. Here’s mine:

Loves to joke. Attractive. Suave and caring. Brave and fearless. Firm and has leadership qualities. Knows how to console others. Too generous and egoistic. Takes high pride in oneself. Thirsty for praises. Extraordinary spirit. Easily angered. Angry when provoked. Easily jealous. Observant. Careful and cautious. Thinks quickly. Independent thoughts. Loves to lead and to be led. Loves to dream. Talented in the arts, music and defense. Sensitive but not petty. Poor resistance against illnesses. Learns to relax. Hasty and trusty. Romantic. Loving and caring. Loves to make friends.

Note, I highlighted “brave” but not fearless, since bravery doesn’t require being fearless, and I’m always askeered of something. :wideeyed:

If you want to join in, here are the guidelines:

  • Mention the person who tagged you and create a link back to them.
  • Copy-paste the traits for all the twelve months (see below).
  • Pick your month of birth (see below).
  • Highlight the traits that apply to you.
  • Tag 12 people and let them know by visiting their blogs and leaving a comment.

A Meme of Thanks

Lincoln Adams | November 26, 2007 @ 11:13 pm

The comely Rachel from Just Something to Think About tagged me up with a Giving Thanks Meme, and while Thanksgiving has already come and gone, I guess I can reiterate some of the things I’ve been thankful for. Here’s my top five:

1. Being alive, which is solid proof that God still doesn’t hate me enough to lob a meteorite in my general direction. And of course my loving parents, who only occasionally regret not giving me up for adoption.

2. Being so good looking. :ggrin:

3. Pizza!!!!!!!!!!!

4. Fall Foliage.

5. That Jessica Alba is still single. :D

I’d pass this on to 5 other blogging friends but I’m just too lazy today. Besides I only counted 3 or 4 altogether that I could consider my friends. Gees, that’s actually kinda sad. :crying:
