Hanging out in Beantown

Lincoln Adams | February 13, 2010 @ 10:32 pm

I started writing this while enjoying dinner at Cheers (yes THE Cheers, or at least the replica they created at Faneuil Hall). As soon as I walked in the overhead speakers started playing “More Than A Feeling”, and I knew I was home. :ggrin:

Cheers at Faneuil Hall

Unfortunately no one knew my name...

After a few days in the city too, I think I’m almost ready to become a Red Sox fan. ALMOST. :D

Boston was simply amazing, and it’s not just this city either. I don’t know what it is about Massachusetts, but this state seems more endearing to me than any of the other New England states I’ve visited so far. On my way up here I traveled through Rhode Island for the first time, and decided to spend a day of geocaching as I made my way through just to get a sense of the state. By the time I got to the border and reached Fall River I decided Rhode Island was simply the state people drive through to get to their REAL destinations. Even though I took the scenic route that saw me pass through Newport, (an area famous for its mansions) Rhode Island was just a blah experience. I decided that I would probably never visit there again, and just cut through Connecticut instead for future trips (unless of course I go to Cape Cod, then I’ll have no choice.)

My initial impression of Beantown was just how clean everything was. Seriously. The roads were smooth and paved for the most part too. Trust me, take a drive through Manhattan and you’ll start to understand why this is a big deal. I had played it right by reserving a hotel in the financial district, where it was only lightly crowded, the parking garage just a block or two away, and where the T line was literally outside the hotel’s entrance. It was a no frills hotel, but it was immaculate. It was also freezing cold, but once I got settled in I was anxious to take a look around even as the wind cut right through me. Boston’s skyline was not as busy as New York’s, but it still seemed majestic and pretty in its own unique way. Once the sun set and day went to night, nearby Christopher Columbus Park and Faneuil Hall went ablaze in colorful lights. From my 7th floor window, the lights of the city just seemed to dance like fireflies in the woods.

The next few days proved to be a whirlwind of sightseeing and running around. I’m finally back home now and I still haven’t caught my breath yet. I’ll write a series of posts over the next few days on what I did and where I went, but suffice it to say it was an awesome experience, and I cannot WAIT to go back. I didn’t even have time or the energy to start ranting about Valentine’s Day either, which starts in just a few hours. Tomorrow I think I’ll probably sleep in for 15 hours or so, then go out, find a happy couple to spit on, and then come back again to sleep for another 15 hours. Sounds like a plan to me. :D

Driving into a storm for funsies, cuz that’s just how I roll, babe.

Lincoln Adams | February 8, 2010 @ 8:10 pm

So hey, I finally took the plunge and made a reservation for Boston, just in time to see a forecast for a storm coming to New England Tuesday night, a forecast that was confirmed juuuuuust late enough to ensure I couldn’t cancel my reservation in time. Yaaay!

:censor:

But whatever, I was born during violent weather, so this will be a mere walk in the park for me, even though my dear Mommy threw a fit about me traveling under such adverse conditions. If this is how she reacts to me being in mildly bad weather, then I probably shouldn’t tell her about my plans to go tornado chasing in a few months.

So this is how I’m gonna kick it: I’ll be spending a large part of the day driving the scenic byways in Rhode Island and geocaching along the way like a fanatic monkey who has no life whatsoever, mainly because I do in fact have no life whatsoever. In the course of doing so I may come across hot babes at rest stops and whatnot prior to my arrival at Boston, in which case I will walk up to them and use my world renowned pickup line: “I think you’re beeeooootiful! Will you be my love snuggles?”

After having been solidly rejected by the entire female population of Rhode Island (all 6 of them), I will spend a few minutes crying over hot cocoa at the border of Massachusetts, then continue on my journey until I arrive at long last at Beantown, for the first time evah! I will then check in, discreetly inquire about escort services, then decide I would never make enough money in this lifetime or the next to afford it, and opt for a slice of pizza at the North End instead.

Good times, baby, good times. :ggrin:

Wish me luck! I probably won’t blog at length until I’m safe and sound at my hotel tomorrow night.

From Neverland to La-La Land!

Lincoln Adams | January 20, 2010 @ 3:36 pm

First thing I did when I got into work today was excitedly ask people what they thought of the Scott Brown election. The typical conversation went like this:

“So did you hear about the election in Massachusetts last night???”

Blank look.

“Um, you have heard about the election between Scott Brown and Martha Coakley right, and that if Brown pulled it off he would be removing the super majority in Congress and possibly stopping Obamacare dead in its tracks?”

Blank look.

“… so… how ’bout them Jets?”

“Oh man, they were totally AWESOME dude! We’re gonna win the Super Bowl BABY!!!!”

 I have to get out of this place.

Angry White Men Black Women

Lincoln Adams | January 20, 2010 @ 2:58 pm

So I’m in court today (don’t ask), waiting to take the elevator down so I can head out and buy more brownies, when this black lady walks up to wait with me, and starts ranting away about something, presumably on the cell phone. We got into the elevator, and she continues to keep on ranting as we went down. Loud too. The only thing I could catch was something about “Brown” and “white people” in “Massachusetts.”

When I caught that, I had to stifle a grin. But then I realized something else. She wasn’t on the phone. I thought she had been railing away on the cell via a bluetooth headset, but she was actually just ranting out loud to no one in particular.

When I realized that, it was all I could do not to burst out laughing. I moved to the corner of the elevator, desperately trying to hold my face together with my hand. Finally the doors opened up and she walked out, still railing away. “….&*#$ white people!!”

I just broke out laughing from there, then headed out the doors, taking in the cool air and the warm sunshine. My brownie will be extra tasty today. :D

Achieving The Impossible

Lincoln Adams | January 20, 2010 @ 11:12 am

Well, Brown did it.

The irony of what transpired last night is so rich not even a German chocolate cheesecake could compete. Consider that this election took place in Massachusetts, in the bluest of blue states, where the seeds of the first revolution began, where the first tea party took place, and which resulted in a Republican taking over what was once the Liberal Lion Ted Kennedy’s seat after a 35 POINT SWING in the polls, just in time for Obama’s one year anniversary since he took office.

If that doesn’t tell you that there is a God, and that He has a sense of humor, I don’t know WHAT will. This was divine providence, and only the most hardened atheist would deny it.

So I guess I’m going to Beantown after all. Or perhaps Wrentham, Brown’s home town. This place seems to be the sight of miracles, so maybe a visit there could get me some left over magic dust so I can achieve the impossible too, and find the girl of my dreams. :D

I’ll tell you one place I probably won’t visit again: the Berkshires. Based on the map I linked to, just about all of the eastern half of Massachusetts (save for Boston and Martha’s Vineyard) went for Brown, while the western half persisted in living in la-la land. I had gone to Stockbridge in December for a Christmas weekend, and the town there went for Coakley by a margin of 75% to 25%. Gees, no wonder everyone was so unfriendly. I KNEW I wasn’t imagining it.

Fortunately, Braintree/Quincy, the sight of John Adams’ hometown both went for Brown. Yay! If I go one of the first things I plan to do is to go visit his house (now a national park) and take a walk into the past. I can’t wait!

Thank you Scott Brown for affording me the opportunity to visit a Kennedy-free state at long last, to breathe in the aromas of a new revolution. :ggrin:

I have had an epiphany (which I can’t do ZIP about now)

Lincoln Adams | January 18, 2010 @ 8:27 pm

While I’ve been thinking about ways to get more traffic and links to my site here, something occurred to me: there was one particular way that I could have easily gotten a huge spike in traffic and finally put my blog on the map.

I could have gone to Massachusetts and volunteered for Scott Brown’s campaign. Seriously. A mad dash to Worcester just for the weekend would have put me in the middle of all the action and given me so much blogging fodder that people would have been hard pressed to ignore me then. Think of the possibilities: me blogging live while I meet and greet Brown supporters at rallies. Or posting photos of me shaking Scott Brown’s hand. And then photos of me flirting with his daughter Ayla Brown, begging for her phone number. And then photos and vids of Scott Brown punching my lights out after flirting with said daughter.

Oh, the possibilities… :D

I could have done it too, except ironically enough my money was already tied up in launching a marketing campaign. Um, whoops?

It was a missed opportunity, but I’m sure others will come along, especially as we get closer to the 2010 elections. I’m glad I had this revelation now though. In order to breathe life into my blog, I really do have to put myself out there, instead of waiting for the action to come to me. I even thought about going down to Haiti too, hitching a ride with Red Cross and just going down there to help out wherever I could. And then of course, I’d blog about the experience. And blog, and blog, and blog…

That’s been my objective for a while, to somehow bridge the desire to help others with my love for writing, but I had been so narrowly focused on trying to bring more traffic to my site that I had failed to consider the possibility that maybe, just maybe, the traffic would take care of itself if I instead focused on writing and living life the way I’ve always wanted to. So I’m not self-employed just yet, but I can certainly ACT like I am. :D

Maybe instead of chasing the dream, I should be LIVING the dream, and the rest will fall into place. The battle is already won, the race already done, the future made, the foundation laid, and I need only claim the victory. :)

The Quest to Recapture My Christmas Spirit Begins!

Lincoln Adams | December 3, 2009 @ 8:33 pm

The bags are packed, the Linc-Mobile fueled, and the letter to Santa requesting the girl of my dreams for my present this year (or a bajillion gabullion dollars) has been mailed. :D

Tomorrow I’m off to Stockbridge, Massachusetts to kick off a New England-style Christmas weekend. Even my car has been decorated with stockings and jingle bells in anticipation of this weekend getaway, hee hee.

I’ve done about all I could do to get into the spirit of things again this year, and I have to admit, nothing quite puts an extra skip to my step then getting the @#$% out of New York for a while.

So from here on out till Monday, I’ll be blogging/tweeting on the go. Hopefully I will have gotten enough practice from my previous getaways to upload my thoughts and pics/vids in a smoother manner too.

Alright, time now to nestle down all snug in my bed, while visions of sugary sweet babes dance in my head. :naughty:
