Slamming the door on decorum

Lincoln Adams | July 13, 2008 @ 1:31 pm

With nothing better to do, I decided to hit the local mall to grab up some Auntie Em’s pretzels. Just as I was about to walk inside, I noticed this very pretty girl walking maybe a few feet behind me, so I held the door open for her.

I could see right away that she not only wasn’t going to say thank you, she wasn’t even acknowledging my existence, as if the door were electronic and had opened by itself. Ah well.

So I let go of the door.

The door was heavy and had slammed into her legs before she made it all the way through. Stunned, she took one angry look at me and said, “What the F&%# is wrong with you?!?”

Ah, so I do exist after all!

“This is the 21st century. Open your own damned door.” I then blew her a kiss and casually used another door to walk inside.

I could hear the obscenities continue behind me as I walked in. Man, what a mouth she had on her. Tee-hee. :giggle:

My pretzel was extra tasty by the way. :ggrin:

That was mean. But…if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, huh? Of course, then you can’t criticize them without criticizing yourself…hmmm…

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve opened doors and didn’t even get acknowledged for it. I’m really quite #%$ing fed up with it. Now I only open doors for elderly ladies, since they still remember the value of decorum. :nyah:

In South Carolina almost everybody opens doors for everybody else, and they all say thank you. But I suppose in NY it is an entirely different story. Pretty sad state of affairs. :cry4:

Yeah New York, no matter how much bad people do elsewhere, New Yorkers always do it worse.

Except for the pizza. :D

And you complain that no girls want you? Hmm…

That was MEAN, but I gotta agree that some women sure are ungrateful, and take it as their right (not privilege) to enjoy such graces. Oh well, there’re always bad apples.

I find being mean gives me an intoxicating high. I fear now that I’ve gotten a taste of it, I won’t be able to stop.

Who knew evil could feel so good? :naughty:

ROFL I think it’s brilliant!

I hold doors open for people all the time and if I don’t get a thank you I say, quite sarcastically, “You’re welcome” … and I hold doors for guys and gals.

I especially love it when a door is held open for me by a younger man and I always make an extra point to say thank you. It’s just so rare for the younger generation to be polite…how sad is that!?!? (and I am IN the younger generation!)

Women should at least thank you for that. I do, however, know a lot of girls who think that you are not obligated to say ‘thank you’ after a guy opens the door for you.

I do thank the guy though, because to me, there are so many men out there who don’t open doors anymore (at least in southern California anyway LOL) and I really do appreciate that (especially since I’m always carrying something).

Some women are just like that and they don’t see the reason to thank a man for doing opening the door.
