Scamming People Afflicted With GERD, Ulcers, Shingles And More
Lincoln Adams | September 8, 2007 @ 8:00 amUpdate 1/17/09: I’m noticing a new trend that seems to reflect the strategy of black-hat affiliate marketers, where fake blogs are created in order to present their product as legitimate, including fake comments that offers only positive, gushing things to say about the product in question (legitimate and negative comments get deleted). One example is at kevinsacidrefluxcure.com, where the scammer generated a barebones blog in order to draw people to one of his many grocery cure scam sites. There’s simply no way for me to keep track of them all, so the best I can do is provide you some examples so you know what to watch out for.
Update 12/29/08: Here’s a list of some domains being used by the same scammer, touting grocery items as cures for various ailments:
- fibromyalgiacured.com
- asthmadefeated.com
- diverticulitiscure.com
- colitiscured.com
- sarcoidosiscure.com
- healgenitalwarts.com
- cellulitedefeated.com
- tuberculosiscured.com
- hemochromatosiscure.com
- diverticulitisinstitute.com
- shingles-cure.com
- colitis-cme.com
- tourettes-disorder.com
It may be a good idea to lodge a complaint with GoDaddy and mention these domains, since they are hosting some of the websites and domains.
Update 10/6/08: I received an email tip that strongly suggests this scammer may be operating out of Singapore. (Since then I’ve received no confirmation of this however, and still suspect he is really operating out of the United States.)
Update 8/30/08: The Washington State Attorney General’s Office recently visited this site, indicating that the complaints about the spammer are at least being read. I don’t know if they’ll take action since the Washington address itself may be fake, but it’s good to see they’re at least looking into the matter.
Updates: I received several helpful email tips about the following sites in question, including:
1. That the “pictures” of Aaron Smith vary with each site.
2. That he is apparently based in the Sydney suburb of Cronulla (Australia).
3. There is a known glitch on his sites where you can download all the eBooks without paying for it. (Simply add “/download.htm” after the root address of any of his sites, and the link to directly download the eBook can be obtained.
4. The scammer also uses “Sharon Kresler/Sharon Cresler” as an alias to sell “natural cures” for diseases that afflict women in particular.
There seems to be an insane number of these types websites, all with the same modus operandi, all touting natural cures for various types of diseases, but what’s truly sad about it all is that this only reflects the work of one possible scammer.
As always, exercise due diligence before spending your precious money online. A simple Google search was enough for me to uncover the suspicious nature of dozens (if not hundreds) of these eBook sites.
Original Article:
I was googling around for information on acid reflux, and what kind natural remedies there might be to alleviate some of the symptoms, when I stumbled on to this site.
The author promises a natural cure in less than one week using nothing more than common grocery items. Sounds awesome! Here’s a short quote where he introduces himself:
Hello, my name is Aaron Smith and I’ve been exactly where you are now. I’ve experienced GERD and the feelings of extreme pain, burning, nausea, depression and anxiety that often accompany this condition.
But wait a minute, he has another site, this time relaying his problems with ulcers:
My name is Aaron Smith and for about 2 ½ years I suffered from the pain and discomfort of ulcers every single day of my life. At first, I lived with the pain by taking over-the-counter antacids – lots of them! If you saw me during that time of my life, you would have sworn I owned stock in the big antacid companies. I was popping Tums and Rolaids like they were candy and using Maalox and Mylanta to wash them down – that’s how bad it was!
But wait a minute, he has yet another site, this time sharing his story on how he cured his problem with shingles:
You see my name is Aaron Smith, I live at 300 Elliott Ave, Seattle, WA, USA and I have been exactly where you are. I had Shingles for 3 Months – and they were the most painful months of my life… which is why I was so lucky that I stumbled upon a simple, unique home treatment that I used to heal my shingles in 6 days.
But wait a minute, he has yet ANOTHER site, this time touting a natural cure for genitals warts. I won’t even link to this one because of the graphic images contained therein.
Well I smell a rat, how ’bout you?
Either this guy is one of the most unfortunate (and subsequently LUCKIEST bastages ever) to have endured all these major illnesses only to cure them all with simple grocery related remedies, or he is one scumbag of a scammer trying to rip you off.
I vote on the later.
Each site hawks an eBook that you have to pay 25 bucks or more for, even though they probably contain nothing more than the words “SUCKERS!! HAHAHAHAHAH!!”
If there’s one thing I can’t stand, it’s these blood sucking pieces of amphibian crapballs who have the gall to try scamming those afflicted with serious physical problems, desperately searching for relief. May the Egyptian plagues of old descend upon them.
After tracing the domains, it appears that all the websites have been registered and hosted via Go Daddy. I’ve sent them an email complaint along with a list of the websites. Hopefully they’ll get back to me and these sites will soon be taken down. If not, then I’m dumping their affiliate program, and they can just find somebody else to pimp their services for them.
Update: I received a response from GoDaddy, but they will not do anything about these websites and indicated the burden of ascertaining whether these sites were scams or not belongs to law enforcement.
I dunno, I guess it’s possible that one guy managed to find a natural cure for ulcers, GERD, shingles, genital warts and more, all in one week’s time and using nothing more than common grocery items. Stranger things have happened, right?
For now I would strongly suggest you not do business with any of these websites. In the meantime I’ve dropped Go Daddy’s affiliate program, since they seemed to show little concern over the issue.

I am glad that I found your site, I have been dealing with a shingles condition for many years, and am always trying to find anything that can give me relief. I read his(aaron) touching story and almost clicked to buy, then I thought that I would just look up the guy, to see if there was any controversy about him. I really didn’t find it, but did find the other sites that you mentioned, and realized that he was just making money from people who are desperate, so I thank you for confirming that for me. Also I want to commend you using your ability to express in words, and then use it to help others to reason.
I found a lysine ointment from puritan pride that helps alot and also take lysine, vitamin B, and a immune thing called host defense from the health store. I am managing with this, but the pain still persists.
Thanks again
Janet

You’re welcome Janet, I only wish I could offer a real alternative that could help people afflicted with these illnesses, but I’m only familiar with GERD to some extent.
I’ll have a good thought for you.

Hello Lincoln Adams,
I also stumbled across the site for shingles hoping to help my father who is suffering greatly. Amazed by his change in life style and with no help from traditional treatment nor morphine etc., I became desperate. You will be happy to hear that before I could order, the Aaron smith site has been closed down. I am glad you followed this scammer up. I also found an aaron smith who is a journalist covering the cost of shingles rx cost and what people were willing to pay. Interesting if it is the same A Smith.
Just thought you would be interested to know.

Hi gayle,
I’ll have a good thought for your father. I’m surprised to see the site was shut down, but it looks like the other scam sites are still running. Hopefully they’ll be shut down as well eventually. Weird that there’s an Aaron Smith who’s a journalist too.
I’ll have a good thought for your father.

Hey there Lincoln,
Thanks for the update. And thanks to Gayle for the input, I hope you find some relief for your dad. I can reccommend llysine ointment from puritanpride.com. Use it generously even after it starts to get better. It has saved me. plus work on building the immune system, and take llysine + B complex.
Hope this helps
Janet

Thanks for the input Janet! I’m pretty sure future visitors looking for relief will appreciate your suggestions.

I found the following sites, all different names but if you visit each site its the same picture – it’s pathetic people trying to scam on individuals who have a real need and are looking for a way to better their health and lives.

Gees, I wonder if every single one of these sites are all run by the same person?
What a racket.

There is also a “Sharon Cressler: who hawks a head live gone ook. She happens to live on Elliott Ave in Seattle too…the scam grows!!
Heres the wesite and a clip from it;
http://www.head-lice-gone.com/
You see my name is Sharon Cresler, I am a 41 year old mother of two and I live at 320 Elliott Ave, Seattle, WA, USA and I have been exactly where you are.

I’ve seen affiliate spammmers use the same techniques as well, and basically all they do is buy a massive number of domain names, then flood the internet with barebones mini-sites that hawk the ebook/affiliate product they’re trying to sell. The ebook I’ve seen from these natural cures sites actually contain valid information (just enough to avoid criminal liability I suspect), but that were probably plagiarized from other sources on the web. In other words, you can find the same info ad verbatim by doing a little bit of Googling.

i was scammed and bought an ebook on killilng lice. how do i get my money back. or is it a loss? i’ve not tried to call the phone # yet. this one was from a sharon cresler also on elliot ave. in seattle. any advice?
Quote
Hi ashlie,
You may have to cut your losses, I’m afraid.
Even though the address is listed in Seattle, it’s unclear where exactly the little bastard is operating out of. But since he is using an address there, you can file a complaint with Washington State’s Attorney General office to start off:
http://www.atg.wa.gov/FileAComplaint.aspx
You can also file a complaint with the FTC:
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
Hope this helps.

Seems he has another alterego -Sarah Spencer -who also lives in Elliot Ave Seattle. Her hemochromatosiscure and diverticulitis cure are both copied from menopause defeated, without bothering to change the scenario. They all have a cure using apple cider vinegar and baking soda to alkalinise the system and some other bogus lifestyle info. Fortunately they are not smart enough to prevent free download. I would have been really pissed off to have paid for this complete crap. And could be dangerous for people who have hemochromatosis to try and treat themselves. If they were in Aus I would report to TGA and have the sites taken down.
Quote
Ashlie: I too bought an ebook from “Sharon Cressler” and I feel so dumb for not having bought from a trusted site like Amazon or such. What is worse is that it goes through paypal in which one would assume is legit in not trying to access pay info however, my paypal account shows no proof of this transaction?? Great. Well update on your progress.
Quote
Thank you for this information. I am glad that I did further research on Sharon Cresler.

You’re welcome!

Lincoln – You’re the bomb! I can’t believe you found out how to download the baloney this guy is selling! And it’s NINETEEN PAGES long. Oh man! I wonder if it even comes stapled together.
If my dad were alive, he’d laugh and laugh… This guy’s “miracle cure” is taking baking soda?! That’s all my dad ever did when he had a problem – 25 years ago. Wow. Some people just have no shame.
Keep up the great work.
Quote
@BirdieKate: Thanks!
Who knows, maybe once enough people know about it the scammer will finally get shut down, but then he’ll probably move on to something else.
Quote
Lincoln: I went ahead and filed a complaint with the websites you listed. Thanks for supplying the info. They are working kinda slow because they have lots of cases. I am hoping these other cases are reporting the same a@%hole!
Quote
You’re welcome Arianne, I hope with enough complaints this scam will finally be stopped.

I feel like such a fool. I am in my mid-30’s and recently began suffering from progressive Endometriosis symptoms. While scouring the Internet last evening, I stumbled upon Sharon Cressler’s web page and purchased the Endometriosis Defeated e-book. The advice appeared legit, but extremely basic and abbreviated. I am growing suspicious after reading your e-mails and stumbling upon more sites with similar “claims” advertised. What is the real story
here, and am I protected as a consumer?
I sent a message to A. Smith and it was sent back, undeliverable! What can I do as a consumer???

Jackie, I mentioned above where you could file a complaint, but here are the links again:
For Washington State (since he’s using an address there) file a complaint here:
http://www.atg.wa.gov/FileAComplaint.aspx
You can also file a complaint with the FTC as well:
https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/
Good luck. These scammers are like roaches too. Where there’s one, there’s probably a zillion others, so always do research and be wary of any claims you find. Don’t feel bad though, I almost fell for it too.
Quote
Wow… They got me too. This stinks.
I was so happy to discover this site though! I passed your collection of testimonials on to PayPal. They were very interested and happy that I forwarded this site as evidence. The Rep. that I spoke to said (after reading this site) “PayPal should not be supporting their activities” and she was forwarding for review.
Just completed the Washington Attorney General complaint.
PayPal also suggested filing a complaint with FBI’s Internet Crime Center. http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
I’m headed there now! Thanks to you whoever you are that put this together. GREAT CONSUMER ADVOCASY!

You’re welcome Jenny!
You know, it never even occurred to me to contact PayPal as well. I wish I had thought of that in the beginning, but I probably didn’t realize PayPal was being sued as the payment system. I’m glad they’re looking into it.
Also, FTC now revamped their system, so I updated the the links to reflect their new address in case you want to file additional complaints there.
I should do this more often, but exposing scams is a TON of work.

Well I have been well and truly taken in!!! Serious problems with the menopause, and as I havent found anything locally that helps even a tad, I looked on Google. So there is Sharon telling you how to solve it in only 5 days, Wow thinks me, I am so fed up with feeling like crap, hot flushes, low libido, mood swings, this is the answer methinks, so have paid and down loading as I write. And then I think how do I write to her, of course there is no connection to any site you can write to her. If she is indeed a her!!!
I feel an expletive Coming on!!!! BUGGER!!!!
There must be a way of putting on any web site who and what the scammers are.
Oh well chalk it up to experience I guess.
Yours somewhat annoyed.

There’s a complaint site that tries to address that to some extent:

Hope you find it helpful, and that you find a treatment that really works.
Feel better!

Hi Lincoln,
Hope you are well, it has been awhile since I wrote but have enjoyed getting your updates.
I also have been doing some research on shingles/herpes and have found Red Marine Algae to work. It is important to note that instant results will not happen, but keep taking it, after a few months no symptons.
Also I am going to start taking Colloidal Silver, now this is where you all need to do your homework. Here is the link that I found for info. (there are many sites)

Wish you well.

Thanks Janet, hopefully that info will prove useful to visitors here.

Although I am very upset that this book, “Endometriosis Defeated” is nothing but a scam, I am thankful that I found this forum before I gave these people any of my money. I know that those of you who have visited this site share my pain, but I have to say it: How dare these people take advantage of desperate, ailing, REAL people. I was so excited to find this book and website because I have been struggling with constant pain and nausea, among other things for the last 6 months. Although I feel even more hopeless than ever, this website is a savior; I shouldn’t blame the messenger, right? Thanks for all of your input, and I truly hope that we all find good health and peace soon.
Quote
Also–I did try to buy the book on the “endometriosisdefeated.com” website, but when I clicked to purchase it, it sent me to a shopping cart website for businesses instead. I googled the book to try to purchase it on another website, and discovered this forum. Maybe they are slowly getting shut down after all.

@Steph: That’s possible, and I certainly hope it means he gets shut down for good.
In the meantime, if you haven’t already, check out Wiki’s list of treatments.

It might help, and I pray you do find much needed relief from your health problems.

Cheers Lincoln…I was googling more info on Hemochromatosis Cure Written By Sarah Spencer, 349 Elliott Ave, Seattle, WA, USA and I found your article. It has allowed me to read the report and realise its useless without the embarassment or financial loss.

Thank you so much for taking the initiative to let others know of this scam. I was searching for medical help/relief when I stumbled onto a site that claimed 5 easy steps just like the others you have mentioned, found at[http://www.endometriosis-nutrition.com/]. Actually, i found her site as an ad by Google. I am glad I decided to do a search on her (Cresler) first.
Thanks again!

Thanks Cynthia, though I’d feel a whole lot better if I could actually catch this bastard so the scams end once and for all.

I am writing a research paper on treatments for Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV/Shingles). From that position, I feel a little strange about saying: I have a copy of Mr. Smith’s paper, which I have to say is full of a variety of approaches. There are 10, including his “Simple Shingles Cure” and approaches ranging from Ayurvedic, TCM, diet and nutrition, and homeopathic and herbs. I cross referenced his lists with the one outlined in “Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing,” and there is a lot of crossover in the supplements and dietary therapy areas. It has a thorough description of what shingles is at the beginning, too.
Having said this, (1) I don’t have shingles, and have not tested his recommendations, (2) No one I know has tested his recommendations, and (3) One section of the site does recommend a mineral supplement that you can only get through the internet.
I am glad to hear the Red Marine Algae seems to help. Regarding colloidal silver – I took this in the past for a few bugs, and it worked great. I stopped taking it when I learned that colloidal silver sits in our fat cells, and we slightly give ourselves heavy metal poisoning by using it. This is easily overcome by using a slightly increased size, however – the silver solution need not by colloidal.
I look forward to hearing more about solutions for VZV. Happy healing!

The ebook you’re using actually appears to be plagiarized content that was lifted from various sources across the web so it’s no surprise that it would contain info that might somehow “ring true.” Regardless the claims made are fraudulent or at the least sensationalized.

Thank you for taking the time to expose these unscrupulous people. Like many others I was thinking of handing over money for the Menopause Defeated ebook but having googled the site and author’s name I’m pleased I saw your site and comments. You are providing a great service so keep up the good work!

You’re welcome! I’m glad I was able to help you avoid getting ripped off.

I sent for a book through Aaron Smith asmith@spectaz.com none of which are reachable and paid through clickbank £17.68 and have never received the Book called Meonpause Diet Report. What do I do, where can I report this. Can I contact the bank and how???
Many thanks
Quote
Errmm….
Since you’re not in the U.S. I don’t know what the process is to report a fraud, but the best thing to do is to contact your bank which handled the transaction and explain the situation, then go from there. In the meantime if you can remember the link you bought the book from, try adding /download.htm to the link and you might be able to access the page where the book is downloaded. Good luck!
Quote
I sent for a Report (I believed it was a book) through Aaron Smith costing £17.68 inc postage which I never received. Click Bank was the bank connected and despite e-mails galore over the past 6 months or so, I have yet to receive a refund. Can anything be done about this guy? surely the law needs to step in. Who do you write to to complain. and what about this bank, how do I get action from them???? Are they involved in this scam?

@Andrea: I noticed that the sites have for the most part disappeared, and I’m pretty sure one of our states here have been investigating the issue, so it’s possible that he’s either been shut down, arrested, or gone into hiding. I can’t think of any way to recover your funds though, but I guess we have to be thankful he didn’t take you for a HUGE sum of money.
