I have decided to be a man…

Lincoln Adams | October 18, 2008 @ 2:18 pm

… by running away from all my problems.

The last few days I’ve been following up on the latest political news, which I realize tends to put me in a violent, must-eradicate-all-liberals-on-Earth kinda mood.  The last straw were all the personal attacks on Joe The Plumber, whose unforgiveable sin it seems had been that he asked a question.

But then I realized that despite spending so many hours reading up on the news, being well informed doesn’t really do anything for me except raise my blood pressure.  See,  I’m a guy who has no absolutely impact on anything that happens in the world, so why bother getting upset over things that I cannot possibly ever change?  Indeed, the only thing I CAN change is myself.  So I have decided to do just that… by withdrawing completely from reality and pursuing an escapist lifestyle where I can remain blissfully ignorant of everything that’s happening in the world.  :ggrin:

I can see the wisdom now of barricading myself in my room with nothing but my desktop PC, a bundle of Netflix DVDs, a few bags of Tostitos and some cheese dip.  I’d remove all the political/news feeds from my feedreader, lock out all the news channels on TV, then completely immerse myself in playing massive multiplayer games online (or perhaps my favorite Nancy Drew mystery games.)   If I have a hankering for something more than chips, I can always order from Papa John’s and have them slide the pizza under my door.

Who says I don’t know how to enjoy life??  :D

I happen to enjoy being “blissfully ignorant” – it’s part of my survival skills. ;)

I’m right there with you, man. Except, I’m not a man…OR AM I???

I was just saying to my husband the other day how nice it would be to not understand things, to not pay attention to how the world actually works, to be ignorant of pretty much everything, because I was so frustrated with stupid people!

I especially love the people who have never paid attention to politics in their life who have started to give a crap and ta-daaa, they now understand it all?? Funny how they pretty much all are Obama supporters.

And the Joe the Plumber crap…unbelievable. Anything the MSM can do to distract from the true beliefs of their Messiah. It’s maddening!!!

Whew! It felt good to get that out!

Ahhh to be blissfully ignorant. It works best when I’m hot for a girl who hates me to death, only I’m just too darned ignorant to know it. :D

@Carrie: Make sure you never work in government. I have yet to meet an intelligent person here, and I feel like my IQ drops 20 points for every conversation I have at work.

Must be why you use an alias. Makes sense. I’m with you on wanting to totally escape. When the news comes on I want to run screaming from the room, right into my study & read a nice escapist novel or turn on the computer. The media’s going to get some citizen backlash for their job on Joe.

@Claudia: In fact what happened to Joe is one of the principal reasons why I use a nom de plume. I also change the names of people I talk to in real life to protect their identities and privacy as well.

They won’t let me buy a RPG though. :(

Oh wait, you mean fighting back via non-violent grassroots political action? Pfffftttt… That’s so boring.

Auto-filtering plugin I use. It automagically replaces certain words with asterisks, so any foul mouthed commenter will be unable to swear a blue streak here, even when I’m not around. :ggrin:

Umm, you will have to change your tag line in your header if you run and hide. You aren’t taking on the world for truth and justice unless you count the gaming world. :P

I haven’t read a thing in my reader for 4 days until this morning. The troll fest on my blog has irritated me enough to avoid it.

Yeah, might have to change that to “One man takes on the imaginary fantasy world he’s built for himself…” :D

Don’t let the trolls get you down. Just tell me where they live and I’ll do a little pest control for ya. :bat:

Unfortunately, to be blissfully ignorant, I would thus have to pretend that I had no acknowledgment of the things that have already been brought to my knowledge. And if I did that, I would ultimately be denying myself of the very thing that makes me, me!

GAAAH.

I think its time to watch the Burbs again. I can feel better about feeling like a fool in calling something that everyone told me I was being silly about JUST to find out that in the end, my neighbors really WERE serial killers.

sigh.

What is this nation coming to?!
