I'm Christian and any Bible believing and abiding person would (or should) know that the things depicted in Harry Potter are actually against God's teachings. Harry Potter uses witchcraft. In Deuteronomy 18:9, the Bible clearly says "When you enter the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations." Here, God gives, not a suggestion, but a very clear instruction with the words "you shall not." So what are these "detestable things?" Verses 10 and 11 tell us: "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up from the dead." How does God look upon those who do such things? Verse 12 tells us: "For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord…"

Many people argue that there's nothing wrong with just watching or reading about witchcraft if you don't partake in it, but the Bible has a response for that as well. Philippians 4:8, "…whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things." Sure there are the positive moral qualities of courage, bravery and friendship. A story about Adolf Hitler and his cronies could also exhibit courage, bravery and friendship. Some might say Harry represents good witchcraft and good wins over evil. God is clear in His word, He never condones witchcraft of any kind and never considers witchcraft good. "Beloved, do not imitate what is evil but what is good..."3 John 11 Also consider Isaiah 5:20, "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil…" .

That being said...there's one more thing to clarify. Mormons are not Christians. Mormons do not follow or believe in the historic Jesus Christ of the Bible, but rather in a different Jesus. They believe that Jesus was a man who somehow "earned" the write to become a god & some other stuff I don't feel like writing out. Whereas Christianity (Bible believing;Jesus following) believe that Jesus is the Son of God (essentially he is God manifested in the flesh).

What's with all the bagging on the Christians? If you were to say bad stuff about Muslims or Jews-- no, that would be wrong and prejudice! Seriously, who cares if Christians like Potter? If someone obsesses over something, it's annoying, no matter what faith they are.

I hate Harry Potter so much!! I started to read the series, because I had nothing better to read, and I ended up reading the first three books. At that time I thought Twilight was overrated. After the first three, I got so bored that I started reading Twilight, thinking I would hate it. I then realized how much Harry Potter is overrated and how AWESOME Twilight is!!
I don't like Harry Potter because of my religious beliefs, I hate because the entire story and plot is so pathetically bad and should not be considered as a literary classic. On the other hand books like the Lord of the Rings are a one million times better than Harry Potter and Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling pale in comparison to Lord of the Rings and J.R.R. Tolkien.
Yet your religious beliefs dictate you take some ancient text as law?

Apologies if im instigative, it how i roll :)

Really people its just pitting one work of fiction against another, looking for elements of the older in the latter. As far as im concerned obsessing over Harry Potter is no different to taking the word of the Bible as reality, only that Harry Potter is fictional by intention of the author, the Bible was not. Harry Potter is a great read the Bible is a classic text leave it at that.
And dont get me started on twilight, the movies made it no more interesting than a dolly mag
