Amazon’s Gift Wrapping Skills

If you’re thinking of opting for Amazon’s gift-wrapping offer when you order a product from them, think again:

I ordered a top of the line toaster for my parents’ anniversary from Amazon last week, and on the order page I noticed an option to have it gift wrapped for six dollars more, so I figured, what the heck. A professionally wrapped present would be sure to impress them even more, as well as add some elegance to my boundless capacity for cheerful giving. :-D

The package arrived yesterday and I quickly opened it up, only to find this:

giftwrapping

Are you kidding me? What the hell is this crap???

It looked like they just tossed my toaster in a raggedy bag and then hurriedly tied it up with a 50 cent ribbon, the thread already wearing out at the edges. I paid six bucks for this?? I swear to God Amazon, that toaster had better be a work of technical perfection, or I’m sending Al Qaeda to your doorstep.

Unbelievable.

Good Grief Charlie Brown… that is a pretty crappy wrapping job for 6 bucks!

But I am sure your parents appreciated your thoughtfulness ;)

They always do, even when they get mad when I spend money on them. :-D Good thing I didn’t opt for the $300 Cuisinart though. They would have really hit the roof.

    Hi (:

Im sory you got so disapponted with the wrapping, but if you notice, amazon has a note in the wrapping option that reads: Note: Large or irregular-shaped items may be placed in a blue gift bag.

So, that might be the reason you got that blue bag ;)

Somebody needs to tell Amazon.com that a oversized blue bag is not "gift-wrapping" http://bit.ly/6SW6QO

I know you wrote this 4 years ago, but I was laugh hysterically when I read this blog. I was trying to find a larger version of Amazon’s otherwise non-useful link (http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=13458771&ref=ox_gift_learn_more_giftwrap&pop-up=1) to see what the gift wrap looked like for my Godson’s birthday gift.

I really needed the laugh. You win some, you lose some I guess. Way to keep the humor despite their crappy selling point.

LOL!…i saw this just after i finished ordering Eagle Tech ET-AR504LR-BK 2.1 Sound stage Speakers with Subwoofer & Remote as a surprise birthday present for a friend of mine. i am keeping my fingers crossed hoping to get this ‘gift’ delivered in a presentable way ….it should not look like someone dumped some dead body in a bag with ribbons tied :-|

On the upside, since it’s close to Halloween, the “looks like dead body in bag” look would actually be appropriate. ;-)

Yeah, you’re best off saving yourself the money and wrapping it the good old fashioned way. ;-D
